I knew the earth was slowing down (doesn't everyone?) but had no idea that the world’s atomic clocks even needed a leap second, or (after switching off my inner alert box after the Y2K non-fiasco) that it was a computing issue. I do now. Here's an update—seems all the problems relate to Java-based software (by ‘software’ I don’t mean apps :-).

That's an interesting article Dave. I just posted it since it clearly explains what the root causes were. It's a must read for any sys-admins.
